emdr therapy

the rundown of
emdr therapy.

EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Trauma is sneaky.

Even when you know something is over, safe, done — your brain can keep replaying it like a bad movie stuck on repeat. (And not the good kind of repeat, like when you rewatch your favorite comfort show for the 40th time.)

That’s where EMDR therapy comes in.

what is emdr?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialized therapy that helps your brain reprocess traumatic memories, so they finally get filed away properly — instead of hijacking your emotions, body, and day-to-day life.

Think of it like this:

Trauma memories can get stuck in your brain’s “inbox,” frozen in time, still carrying all the intense feelings and sensations from when they first happened.

EMDR helps your brain move them to the “long-term storage” where they belong —without deleting them (because, you know, that’s not how human brains actually work), but making them way less triggering and disruptive.

what does this actually look like?

How EMDR Works:

  • We start by building a solid foundation: creating safety, learning grounding techniques, and making sure you have plenty of resources in your emotional toolbox before we dive into anything heavy.

  • We will then make a “trauma timeline”. This can be anything from big T trauma to annoyances or stress about past or future events. One of the cool things about EMDR is you never have to share information about these memories, unless you want to, and as long as you know what is what on the timeline, we are good to go!

  • When you’re ready, we’ll pick a memory from the timeline — and we will pick if we want to work to stay with and process that specific memory, or encourage your brain to move more fluidly.

  • During the processing phase, I’ll guide you through bilateral stimulation (usually eye movements, tapping, or sounds) while you notice what comes up.

  • Your brain does the magic behind the scenes — connecting dots, defusing old triggers, and weaving new meaning into the story.

EMDR works at the speed of thought!

why emdr?

  • Because trauma deserves more than just talking about it.

  • Because healing is about experiencing safety, not just knowing you “should” feel safe.

  • Because your nervous system is brilliant — and when given the right tools, it knows how to heal itself.

who is emdr helpful for?

  • People healing from single-event trauma (like a car accident or assault).

  • Folks dealing with complex trauma (C-PTSD, developmental trauma).

  • Anxiety, phobias, and panic disorders.

  • Disturbing life experiences that you just can’t seem to “get over” no matter how hard you try.

EMDR offers a path toward real, deep healing — the kind that doesn’t just make sense logically, but feels true in your bones.
