the rundown of
sensorimotor psychotherapy
Our bodies tell stories even when our words fall short. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a body-centered approach that helps you reconnect with your own physical and emotional wisdom, especially if trauma has left you feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or stuck.
Developed by Dr. Pat Ogden, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy recognizes that trauma isn’t just “in your head” — it’s living in your nervous system, your posture, your reflexes, and your movements. In our work together, we gently explore these somatic (body-based) experiences with curiosity and respect, using mindfulness to notice patterns without judgment. It’s a little bit like being a compassionate detective of your own inner world.
what does this actually look like?
Instead of only talking about what happened, we slow things down. We tune into small body signals — maybe a tight jaw, a sudden urge to move, a feeling of collapse — and follow them like clues. You’re in the driver’s seat the whole time; we’ll move at your pace to build safety, process the tough stuff, and integrate new, empowering experiences.

who might benefit?
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy can be especially helpful if:
You feel like your trauma responses happen automatically (even when you “know better” cognitively).
You often feel disconnected from your body or emotions.
Traditional talk therapy hasn’t quite gotten to the heart of things.
You’re curious about building a deeper, more compassionate relationship with your body. If you’re ready to gently reclaim your body’s story Sensorimotor Psychotherapy can offer a path forward. I’d be honored to support you on that journey.
